All change

Photography has changed rapidly over the past few years, and will continue to do so, especially if the likes of Samsung, Panasonic, Fujifilm and Nikon have anything to say about it. Over the summer months, photographers have been overwhelmed by the amount of technological innovations being presented within cameras, and it is time to decide which are gadgets and which will become must-have features.
I was lucky enough to be invited along to see the launch of the newest Micro Four Thirds offering from Panasonic, the GF1, in September. Seeing this ultra slim camera, packed with great technology like the four thirds sensor, and capable of producing amazing images, left me wondering whether the day of the DSLR is over, and if ease of use and portability are now the consumers must important features.
However, on my return into the office I was met by the Nikon D300s and the Olympus E-600 (review one page 92), and my doubts were quickly laid to rest. Although the new breed of hybrids will no doubt have their place (an estimated 20% of the camera market) there’s nothing like having the reassuring weight and quality of a top DSLR.
